Olympiacos named ninth most successful club
Olympiacos were named the ninth most successful club in the world based on number of titles won.
The renowned football site “Goal.com” released the world’s 30 most successful football clubs based on the number of titles won. Olympiacos were the only Greek club on the list, ranked in ninth place with a total of 75 titles.
The Erythrolefki are the most successful club in Greece with 44 league titles to their name, the most out of any other club in Greece, 27 Greek Cups, and four Greek Super Cups.
The Piraeus giants were listed ahead of some of Europe’s biggest clubs including Manchester United (71), Ajax (70), Bayern Munich (70), Juventus (63), Liverpool (59), Milan (48), and South America’s Boca Juniors (55) and River Plate (48).
Topping the list was a non-European club, Al-Ahly of Egypt with a whopping 118 titles. Rangers from Scotland sit in second place with 115 titles while Club Nacional of Paraguay sit in third with 113 titles. Atletico Peniarol (Uruguay, 108 titles), Celtic (Scotland, 105 titles), Barcelona (Spain, 91 titles), Real Madrid (Spain, 90 titles), Benfica (Portugal, 83 titles), Olympiacos (Greece, 75 titles), and Porto (Portugal, 74 titles) round up the top-10.
Olympiacos will look to add to their trophy cabinet in the 2019/20 season after two consecutive campaigns without hardware.
Clubs with the most consecutive league titles
The website “prensafutbol.cl” released a list with the most consecutive league titles won by a single club over the years with Olympiacos’ name appearing on the distinct list. The Reds have won seven straight league championships on two different occasions, from 1997-2003 and 2011-2017, sitting in a four-way tie for fourth on the list. Celtic (Scotland), Lyon (France), and Al-Ahly (Egypt) have also claimed seven-straight league titles.
Dinamo Zagreb of Croatia sit atop the list with a tremendous 11-straight league titles while Rangers are second with nine straight and Juventus are in third with eight straight titles.
