Olympiacos see off Partizan to reach Champions League playoffs
UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE - 3RD QUALIFYING ROUND (LEG 2)
|Olympiacos||2 - 2||Partizan|
|(5 - 3)
Olympiacos go into safely into Friday’s draw for the Champions League playoffs after seeing off Partizan 5-3 on aggregate following a 2-2 draw between the two teams in the second leg of their third qualifying round tie on Wednesday.
Bensik Hasi’s side, who won the first leg in Belgrade 3-1 last week, opened the scoring in fortunate circumstances when Partizan goalkeeper Filip Kjajic fumbled in Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalez’s 22nd-minute free-kick.
The hosts wobbled slightly when a slick-passing Partizan side drew level in the 33rd minute via another goalkeeping error. This time Olympiacos custodian Stefanos Kapino was the culprint, spilling Marko Jankovic’s long range effort into the path of Seydouba Soumah, who gleefully side-footed the ball home.
Olympiacos began the second half with an added attacking impetus and they went 2-1 up seven minutes in after a neat exchange down the left flank between Leonardo Koutris and Marko Marin, which ended with the former picking out Kostas Fortounis’ perfectly timed run into the box.
The Greece international did the rest, rising salmon-like to head powerfully past a helpless Kljajic into the right corner.
But the home side were pegged back again six minutes from full-time when Uros Djurdjevic hammered in another equalizer for Partizan.
Despite that strike, the home side were not in danger of letting the tie slip and closed out the game in the closing stages.
