Reports suggest that the Erythrolefki are keen on bringing back two loanees who have each enjoyed successful spells abroad this season, specifically Greek international Giannis Gianniotas and Cypriot international Konstantinos Laifis.

Gianniotas, fresh off a second loan spell to APOEL in Cyprus, is the more straightforward option as the summer approaches. The player wants to try his luck again with the Greek champions. The winger has enjoyed two positive season with APOEL managing 13 goals and 6 assists in 57 appearances for the club. His form in Cyprus has seen him brought into the fold with the Greek national team. Gianniotas had indicated he is happy to return to Olympiacos, however he has also stated that he doesn’t want to be loaned out again and if he was not in the new manager’s plans then would like to be able to leave the club.

While Gianniotas’ return seems imminent, the situation regarding Laifis is a bit trickier. Olympiacos loaned out the 23-year-old defender to Standard Liege in a 2-year deal. Because of his performances for Standard in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League, the Belgian side has expressed a desire for Laifis to remain with the club and have indicated they are willing to pay €2 million to make that happen.

There is a special clause in the loan deal however that states Olympiacos can recall the player. And because the Greek giants have closely watched the high-caliber performances of Laifis in Belgium, they are set to call Laifis back to Greece.

The return of both players will add some youth and energy  to the squad as well as depth to the roster. These potential moves, along with the recent signing of youngster Leonardo Koutris from PAS Giannina, are clear signals that the Olympiacos hierarchy are out to ensure that the mistakes of last season are not repeated.
