Olympiacos defeated PAOK 0:3 set to take a 2-0 series lead in the Greek VolleyLeague finals and are just one victory away from winning this year’s league crown.
After taking a 1:0 series lead earlier in the week, Olympiacos traveled to Thessaloniki for game 2 of the Greek VolleyLeague Finals against PAOK. The visitors dominated the first set early on and despite a late push from PAOK, won the first set comfortably 19:25.
Although Olympiacos took an early 9:15 lead in the the second set, it turned out to be a nail biter in the end. PAOK managed to pull within one at 14:15 and the two teams where neck and neck until the finale, but the Erythrolefki prevailed with a narrow 23:25 set win.
Like the second set, Olympiacos grabbed an early lead at 4:10, with PAOK responding to pull level at 8:8. The hosts failed to keep the momentum and with a string of mistakes, fell behind at 14:20. PAOK made one more push to bring the scores at 19:22, but it was Olympiacos who held on for the 21:25 set win and 0:3 match victory.
The win puts Olympiacos just one victory away from the VolleyLeague crown, which would dethrone the 3-time defending champions from Thessaloniki.
Game three will take place in Piraeus on Wednesday where the Erythrolefki will have the opportunity to sweep PAOK and return to the top of Greek Volleyball.
