Out of favour Vellios scores first goal of the season in FA Cup defeat
Troubled Greek striker Apostolos Vellios finally scored his first goal of the 2017/2018 season, finding the net in Nottingham Forest’s 1:2 defeat to Hull City in the FA Cup.
To be honest, it’s been a simply disastrous campaign for the 26-year old. Incredibly, Vellios has not made a single appearance for Nottingham Forest in the English Championship this season, as he is completely out of favour with his current club. Nevertheless, he was brought on for the final ten minutes against Hull City in the FA Cup, scoring at the death. A looping pass into the penalty area found Vellios, who beat the goalkeeper with a confident finish.
Despite Vellios’ goal, Nottingham Forest fell to Hull and leave the tournament. However, by scoring that excellent marker, Vellios may have given head coach Aitor Karanka something to think about. Fellow Greek Andreas Bouchalakis also participated in the FA Cup tie, being substituted after the first half.
