On Saturday, Apollon Larissa did well to halt the Volos NFC charge at home with a draw, but AOK Kerkyra responded with a 2:1 victory at Sparti to overtake them and move into second spot of the table. After a goalless first half, Brazilian midfielder Bruno Mota opened the scoring for Kerkyra on 54 minutes, before Thuram subsequently doubled the advantage. Franck Eric Tientcheu halved the Sparti deficit in stoppage time, but Kerkyra held on to pick up their third consecutive Football League victory.

Panachaiki and Platanias, clubs which both began the campaign with realistic hopes of promotion to the Super League, met in Patras in an important fixture. The battle looked to be heading towards a goalless draw, but with nine minutes remaining, Christos Eleftheriadis struck to give Panachaiki all three points. They occupy sixth place while Platanias are in fourth.

In Heraklion, Ergotelis got back to winning ways after losing to Iraklis on the road last week, seeing off the challenge posed by Aittitos Spata 3:1. Joseph Efford, Charles Kwateng and Manolis Rovithis scored the crucial goals for Ergotelis, who are still a large 12 points behind leaders Volos in fifth position.

Iraklis’ two-game winning streak came to an end with a 0:0 draw at AO Trikala, Apollon Pontou and Doxa Dramas also drew a blank, Irodotos sneaked past bottom club Aiginiakos 1:0 with a goal from Daniel Argilesi, and Nikos Kouskounas hit the target to seal a second successive win for AO Chania Kissamikos as they beat Karaiskakis 1:0 at home.

It’s worth noting that Volos NFC, Apollon Larissa, Apollon Pontou, Doxa Dramas, Karaiskakis, AO Trikala, Aittitos Spata and Aiginiakos all have a game in hand (12 matches played in comparison to 13 for the rest).
