Panathinaikos enjoy home comforts against Atromitos
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 27
|Panathinaikos||1 - 0||Atromitos|
SuperLeague crisis club Panathinaikos showed once again they are still a dominating force on home soil after defeating high-flying Atromitos 1-0 on Sunday to record their eighth win in 13 games at their Apostolos Nikolaidis stadium.
French forward Anthony Mounier scored the only goal of a tightly-contested matchday 27 clash in the 58th minute from the penalty spot, with Marinos Ouzounidis’ defiant team holding on for the win despite playing with 10 men for the last nine minutes after Giannis Mystakidis was sent off for picking up a second booking.
The result means that the financially-crippled Greens, despite their recent troubles which saw them docked three points for failing to honor payments to former player Jens Wemmer, are in 10th place with 32 points.
Significantly, the Greens’ home form has been to key to the Trifylli avoiding being sucked into the relegation battle as of their nine wins this season, eight of them have been recorded at their home ground.
Atromitos, who remain in fourth place despite the defeat, had the better of the opening match but failed to take advantage of a number of chances with Panathinaikos goalkeeper Odysseus Vlachodimos producing a string of fine saves.
