A disappointing fourth quarter paved the way to a Panathinaikos loss at the hands of Fenerbahce on Wednesday night…
Panathinaikos’ two-game winning run in the EuroLeague came to end in Turkey on Wednesday as a disappointing fourth-quarter effort saw the Greek Champions go down 67-62 to Fenerbahce.
Despite leading heading into the fourth quarter, Panathinaikos could only muster 12 points in the final frame as Fenerbahce went on a 20-12 run to avenge the Turkish side’s loss in Athens back in the Fall.
The defending EuroLeague Champions were led by Jason Thompson, who tallied 14 points in the win; meanwhile, Greek international Kostas Sloukas added 11 points for the Turkish side.
Panathinaikos’ offense was spearheaded by Chris Singleton, who notched a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. As always, Nikos Calathes played a big part for the Trifylli on offense, with the former NBA guard dishing out 7 assists to go along with his 13 points.
The win sees Fenerbahce pull into a tie with Panathinaikos at 12-6, with the Aegean duo also joined by Real Madrid who share the same record.
Panathinaikos will look for a quick rebound against the EuroLeague best side as CSKA Moscow visit the Greek capital on Friday night, while Fenerbahce will look to keep their momentum going in a clash with domestic rivals Anadolu Efes.
