Panathinaikos find Zeca’s replacement
Panathinaikos have decided on Renne’s Yacouba Sylla to replace Carlos Zeca in the midfield after the Greece international signed with FC Kobenhavn on Monday. The Prasini are also looking to sign a winger before the end of the month.
The Trifylli have agreed to a deal with Rennes for Yacouba Sylla, who will be replacing Carlos Zeca in the Greens’ midfield. The 26-year old will join Panathinaikos on a one year loan deal which will include a €1 million buyout clause at the end of the season. Yacouba Sylla made 19 appearances in last year’s Ligue 1 with Montpellier, where he played on loan from Rennes, and managed to score one goal.
Sylla began his professional career with French Ligue 2 club Clermont (2010-2013) before moving to the English Premier League for Aston Villa (2013-2015). While at Villa, he played one season on loan in the Turkish Superleague with Kayseri Erciyesspor (2014-2015) before making a permanent move to Rennes in 2015.
The Mali international arrived in Greece late Tuesday night and will undergo the necessary medical tests before signing his new deal with the Prasini. The medical tests will be of interest to the Panathinaikos coaching staff as Sylla was cut by Dinamo Zagreb for failing to pass his medical tests.
Apart from Sylla, Panathinaikos are moving to sign a winger at the request of coach Marinos Ouzounidis. However, due to little time remaining in the 2017 summer transfer window, Panathinaikos may be forced to sign a second striker, leaving Luciano to play in the wing position for the new season.
