Panathinaikos leave it late again
GREEK SOCCER CUP - GROUP STAGE (MATCHDAY 2)
|A. Karditsa||1 - 2||Panathinaikos|
Panathinaikos scrambled another late winner this season, defeating Anagennisi Karditsas 1-2 in Tuesday’s Greek Cup action.
It was another unconvincing performance for the Greens as they struggled against second division side, Anagennisi Karditsas, in Tuesday’s Greek Cup action. The team from Karditsa took a shocking 1-0 lead in the 14th minute when Plavoukos turned in a cross from close range, as the stadium and home players erupted in celebration. Despite the early lead, the hosts kept their advantage at the halftime.
Panathinaikos were able to turn things around in the second half and seven minutes after the restart, the visitors pulled level with Mounier’s brilliantly placed header from Johansson’s cross. The Prasini kept up their pressure in the second half, which paid off in the end as Saturday’s hero versus Lamia, Molins, scored the winner in second half stoppage time. The striker did well to free himself in the penalty area and had an easy task to slot home past the Karditsa keeper, sending Panathinaikos to the next round of the competition.
The six points from two matches assure Panathinaikos a place in the knockout out stages and their attention can now turn to Saturday’s big derby against eternal enemies Olympiacos. Karditsa are without points after two matches and were eliminated from a top-2 finish.
