Panathinaikos celebrated their first home win over Olympiacos in the Finals series for the first time since 2014, defeating Olympiacos 84-80 in today’s game three matchup. In a tightly contested match, the hosts held a slight lead for most of the game as Olympiacos stayed within striking distance thanks to good offensive rebounding and big shots from behind the arch. However, without their captain Vassilis Spanoulis, Olympiacos were unable to overcome their eternal rivals and Panathinaikos leveled up the best of five series at 1-1.
It was Panathinaikos’ Greek trio that did the damage with Pappas finishing as the hosts’ leading score with 16 points while Bourousis finished with 12 points. Calathes added eight points and dominated the boards with 10 rebounds.
Green took charge for Olympiacos with 21 points (5/6 from behind the arch) while Printezis (15 points) and Papanikolaou (12 points) each finished with double digits.
The all-important Game 3 will take place in Piraeus at the Stadio Eirinis kai Filias on Sunday at 2:00 PM EST (9:00 PM local Greek time).
