Panionios continue where they left off from last season
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 1
|Kerkyra||0 - 1||Panionios|
Panionios, who had a tremendous run in last year’s Superleague, got off to a great start to the season, defeating Kerkyra 0-1 on the road. Durmishaj scored the only goal of the match while both teams failed to score from the penalty spot.
Despite losing many players from last season, Panionios look as if they will put together another great run in this year’s Superleague after a 5th place finish last season. The Kyanerythri defeated Kerkyra 0-1 on the road and started of the year with three points on the board. The only goal of the game came in the 53rd minute when Durmishaj’s powerful header found the back of the net after Hajsafi’s corner.
Earlier in the match, with the scores at 0-0, both teams were awarded a penalty but neither side was able to take advantage of the spot kick. First, Kerkyra’s Thuram was denied by Kotnik (who was a rock in the Panionios goal during the match) in the 39th minute and right before the halftime whistle, Masoud was denied by Kerkyra’s Giannakopoulos and the Iranian’s rebounded effort in front of an open net hit the woodwork and stayed out.
