PAOK will not be returning to the group stages of the CEV Champions League, after being defeated 3-1 by UV Frankfurt in the final qualifying round.
After losing 0-3 at home, they needed to win 3-0 (or 3-1) away and win the golden set in order to advance. Their dreams were practically shattered after the Germans took the first set 25-17. The Germans would then also take the second set by the same score, officially ending PAOK’s dreams of qualifying for the group stages.
PAOK would come back and win the third set 21-25. They would also hold two set points in the fourth set, but could not convert and ultimately fell 27-25.
While PAOK will not be returning to the Champions League group stages, they will now be competing in the CEV Cup instead, which is Europe’s second-tier competition.
