Platanias were 4:3 winners over Panachaiki in Wednesday’s thrilling Football League derby in Chania. The hosts got off to a stunning start as Nili struck twice in the opening eight minutes to give Platanias an early 2:0 lead. After three good chances from Papatolio, Sotirako, and Eleftheriadis, hit-man Moraitis pulled the visitors back within one with a well placed header in first half stoppage time.

Shortly after the restart, Loukinas re-gave Platanias a two-goal cushion and Miguel struck on 66 minutes to put Platanias ahead 4:1. It looked as if it was going to be a comfortable win for the Cretan side, but Panachaiki made it an interesting finish as the visitors were awarded two penalties in the final 13 minutes. Eleftheriadis stepped up in the 77th minute and in second half stoppage time to convert the spot kicks, but it was too little too late as Panachaiki fell 4:3.

The result keeps Platanias in second place (52 points) with a one-point advantage over third placed Apollon Larissa. Panachaiki were officially knocked out of the race for second place, sitting in eighth place with 42 points.

Apollon Larissa kept the pressure on Platanias after recording a very important 1:3 win on the road over league winners Volos NFC. Iliopoulos gave the hosts the lead late in the first half, but after the restart, a Galitsios own goal brought things level in the 56th minute. Two minutes later, Lucao put the visitors in front and Marcolino sealed the three points for Apollon Larissa in the final moments of the second half.
