Paschalakis starts in Rome
Head coach of the Greek national team, John van ‘t Schip, has named his starting line-up to play against Italy on the road in UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying.
When Vasilis Barkas broke a finger in training earlier in the week, many thought that Odisseas Vlachodimos would be the starting goalkeeper against the Italians, but instead Alexandros Paschalakis of PAOK starts between the sticks.
Konstantinos Stafylidis and Michalis Bakakis are on the flanks as expected, while Pantelis Hatzidiakos makes his debut for the Ethniki Omada in the centre of defence alongside Dimitris Siovas. Dimitris Kourbelis, Andreas Bouchalakis and Carlos Zeca play as the holding midfielders.
Tasos Bakasetas, who has been playing well in Turkey with Alanyaspor, is the Greek attacking midfielder at the Stadio Olimpico. Dimitris Limnios and Efthymis Koulouris lead the line.
Greece starting XI (4-3-1-2): Paschalakis (GK) - Stafylidis (LB), Siovas (CB), Hatzidiakos (CB), Bakakis (RB) - Kourbelis (DM), Bouchalakis (DM), Zeca (DM) - Bakasetas (AM) - Limnios (FW), Koulouris (FW).
Italy will officially qualify for Euro 2020 if they earn all three points. The game in Group J will begin at 21:45 Greek time.
