Platanias Edge Closer to Playoffs

Platanias 1 - 0 Iraklis
Giakoumakis 77'

Platanias saw off struggling Iraklis in the SuperLeague Matchday 25 Monday night match to keep their hopes of reaching the playoffs alive.

The Cretans from Chania controlled the match for long spells against the league’s bottom club, but still had only Giorgos Giakoumakis’ solitary goal 12 minutes from full-time to show for their dominance.

The home fans certainly weren't complaining at the final whistle, however, as they celebrated a victory which moved their team up to sixth spot, just two points adrift of fifth-placed AEK, who occupy the last available playoff place.

With five matches to go Platanias have everything to play for in what promises to be a thrilling run-in to the end of the season.

For Iraklis, their situation is looking bleaker by the week. Despite picking up some positive draws in recent weeks, this latest setback means they remain locked on 16 points with bottom-placed Veria, with both clubs three points away from 14th spot and safety, which is currently occupied by Levadiakos.
