Rethymno close in on safety, Kolossos Rodou shock PAOK in Thessaloniki

Rethymno recorded a big win over Peristeri to close in on safety while Kolossos Rodou shocked PAOK in Thessaloniki, to increase their chances of avoiding the drop.

Promitheas out classed Panionios in Patra with the hosts recording an emphatic 104:67 victory. Brown put together an exceptional performance with 29 points and seven assists to keep his team well in the hunt for a fourth placed finish. Papantoniou netted 27 points for the visitors, who sit in ninth place.


Kymi recorded a thrilling 89:88 victory over Lavrio and kept their slim safety hopes alive. The hosts held an 11-point advantage with just over three minutes remaining, but a late surge from Lavrio made a game of it in the final moments. However, Kymi held on to move up to 32 points along with Lavrio and Rethymno. Junior and Horton led Kymi with 22 and 21 points, respectively while Lavrio had five players finish with double-digit points.


Rethymno took a big step towards safety as they dispatched Peristeri 83:73, to record their fourth straight league win. Rethymno will ensure safety with a win over Aris on the final matchday or if Kymi lose to Panathinaikos, which is likely to happen. Bart led Kymi with an impressive 30 points while Calahan led Peristeri with 14 points. Peristeri are tied for third with Promitheas on 41 points.


Kolossos Rodou produced the biggest upset of the weekend as they defeated PAOK 79:83 in Thessaloniki. It is the first win for the islanders in 12 outings and it keeps Kolossos Rodou’s hopes for safety alive. The Rodites turned the game around in the third quarter as they caught fire from behind the arch and increased their lead to 10 points in the fourth quarter. The visitors withstood PAOK’s pressure in the final moments to hold on to the all-important victory.

Browning (16 pts), Pinkston (14 pts), and Tupkovic (13 pts) starred in Kymis victory while Goss and Tepic led PAOK with 16 and 14 points, respectively.


Ifaistos Limniou sealed seventh place in the regular season after defeating Aris 73:64 and celebrated a playoff berth with their fans. Freimans led the hosts in scoring with 23 points while Evans finished with a double double, 17 points and 13 rebounds. For the Thessalonikis, Jones finished with 13 points and six assists.
