Ruthless AEK Larnaca thrash Omonia
CYPRIOT FIRST DIVISION - MATCHDAY 14
|AEK Larnaka||5 - 0||Omonia|

AEK Larnaca returned to first place of the Cypriot First Division in emphatic style, thrashing a poor Omonia Nicosia side 5:0 at the AEK Arena.
Anorthosis Famagusta put pressure on AEK by winning their match on Sunday, but the Larnaca club laid down a huge statement of intent. Frenchman Florian Taulemesse opened the scoring within eleven minutes, latching on to a perfect through ball and beating the Omonia goalkeeper with confidence. Mamadu Cande did have a superb opportunity to grab an instant equaliser for Omonia, however he contrived to blast off target at point blank range.
The visitors were made to pay for that miss. With half-time approaching, Taulemesse expertly glanced a free-kick into the left corner for his second of the match. That goal killed all Omonia hope of a comeback, and AEK went on to rip their opponents apart in the second half. Joan Tomas made it three with a delicate lob over Omonia’s Piet Velthuizen, before Jorge Larena’s hopeful drive swerved into the net. A stunning chip from Acoran Barrera Reyes in the dying moments completed the 5:0 rout.
This win lifts AEK to first place in the First Division, two points ahead of Anorthosis. Struggling Omonia find themselves languishing in seventh position, a huge thirteen points behind AEK.
