Sfairopoulos named ‘Coach of the Year’ in Israel
Greek boss, Ioannis Sfairopoulos, was named the ‘Coach of the Year’ in Israel after leading Maccabi Tel Aviv to the domestic league title.
On Thursday, Ioannis Sfairopoulos celebrated his first title abroad as a head coach, leading Maccabi Tel Aviv to the 2019 Israeli Basketball Premier League title. The Tel Aviv side defeated Maccabi Rishon LeZion 89:75 in the final of the Premier League’s Final-4 to win the club’s 53rd domestic league crown and their second in as many years.
As a result, the Greek boss was named the ‘Coach of the Year’ in Israel. Sfairopoulos took over Maccabi earlier in the season with the team struggling and managed to turn things around to help the club to the domestic title and a respectable campaign in the EuroLeague.
