Skibbe set to be awarded new two year contract by the EPO
Following an Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) meeting in Thessaloniki, the organisation seem to have given Greek national team head coach Michael Skibbe another two years at the Ethniki’s helm.
On the EPO’s official website, a statement was released on Monday stating that the EPO executive board have unanimously given president Evangelos Grammenos permission to speak with Skibbe about a new contract. Considering that Skibbe recently expressed his desire to carry on as national team head coach, it now seems certain that the German will remain in charge for the Euro 2020 qualifying campaign.
After the EPO’s decision became known, organisation president Evangelos Grammenos stated why he wants Skibbe to stay with the Greeks. “Despite the failure to qualify for the World Cup, we cannot ignore the positive contribution which Michael Skibbe has made,” stated Grammenos. “The national team has become a family, with harmonious relationships between players and coaches. We also took into account the opinions of Mr. Vryzas and the players. With Euro 2020 ahead, we think that Skibbe should be given a second chance.”.
All that remains is for Skibbe to put pen to paper, something which Grammenos wants to happen sooner rather than later.
