AGONAsport’s George Tsitsonis brings you a full preview for matchday 28 of the Greek SuperLeague.
AEK can clinch their first league title in 24 years with a point against Levadiakos on Sunday. That is the highlighted fixture for Matchday 28 of the 2017/18 Greek Super League. All eight matches will kick off simultaneously.
The AGONAsport Match of the Week takes place at the Olympic Stadium in Athens as AEK host Levadiakos. It has all the makings of a historic and festive day for AEK who are aiming to lift their first league championship in nearly a quarter century. A point will do for Manolo Jimenez’s side against a Levadiakos team looking to spoil the party as they continue their late charge for a European place.
Xanthi, the current occupiers of fifth place and Greece’s final European place for next season, have a difficult away trip to PAOK on Sunday. PAOK will look to continue their objective of claiming second place and a ticket to the Champions’ League qualifiers in the summer.
Olympiacos and Asteras Tripolis will have one eye on the result between Xanthi and PAOK. Olympiacos remain a point behind PAOK for second place and will seek to keep the pressure on when they travel to play Apollon Smyrnis. A win or potentially even a draw could see Apollon clinch safety.
One of the weekend’s biggest matches takes place in Corfu where Kerkyra and Asteras Tripolis face off. Kerkyra must win to avoid relegation, while an Asteras victory could see them climb to fifth place if Xanthi lose in Thessaloniki.
Elsewhere, Panionios’ slim hopes for continental football next season could receive a boost with a win against Panathinaikos. Atromitos host a Platanias side without much motivation following their confirmed relegation.
PAS Giannina and Larisa meet up with the latter needing a solitary point to assure themselves of top-flight status next season.
Finally, Panetolikos and Lamia duel it out in Agrinio. Lamia need the points to stay away from the drop zone, but they will clinch safety should Kerkyra fail to defeat Asteras.
