Stergiakis included in list of top-100 U21 footballers

Goalkeeper, Antonis Stergiakis, was the only Greek player included in Tuttosport’s list of the world’s top-100 footballers at the U21 level.

The Golden Boy is awarded to the world’s best football at the under 21 level. Tuttosport released a list of the world’s top-100 players at the U21 level and these candidates will contest for the 2019 Golden Boy honor. The list is mostly made up of players playing their club football in Europe. 

Only one Greek was included in Tuttosport’s list, Antonis Stergiakis. The 20-year-old goalkeeper plays his club football in Bulgaria with Slavia Sofia. Last season he made 20 appearances across all competitions for the Bulgarian side and is valued at 680,000 euros by Transfermarkt. Last summer, the youngster was close to a move to Olympiacos, however issues late in the negotiation process halted his move to Piraeus.

Stergiakis has also represented Greece at the U17, U19, and U21 levels. 

Last year, three Greek players where in the running for the Golden Boy award including Panagiotis Retsos (Leverkusen), Kostas Galanopoulos (AEK), and Dimitris Limnios (PAOK).
