On Thursday, Giorgos Baltadoros was flying a Mirage 2000-5 jet, but the plane tragically crashed into the Aegean sea, in turn killing the 34-year old pilot. Baltadoros was preparing to land his aircraft at a military airport located in Skyros, but disaster struck and he died in the ensuing incident. Recently, tensions between Greece and Turkey have risen, with Baltadoros’ Mirage plane one of two Greek jets returning from a mission to intercept Turkish aircraft in the Aegean earlier in the day.
In a display of solidarity, Super League president Giorgos Stratos decided to donate 100 thousand euros to the victim’s family which will be collected from the 16 clubs in Greece’s top flight. Baltadoros leaves behind a wife and two children.
