Super League format talks to take place on Wednesday
Possible formats for next year’s Super League will be discussed on Wednesday while an official Super League Board of Directors meeting is scheduled for Thursday.

On Wednesday, a special committee consisting of representatives from AEK, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, PAOK, Atromitos, and Asteras Tripolis will meet to discuss possible formats for next year’s Super League competition. After the restructuring of Greece’s football leagues, the new Super League will include 14 teams as opposed to the 16 teams that competed this season.
Various formats will be proposed by the representatives with some ideas already on the table including a playoff/playout system, a third round of games, and a mini-group stage to take place between January and December.
These proposals will then be brought to discussion at the next Super League Board of Directors meeting (not on Thursday) which will take place later this month. There, the new format will be voted on and passed ahead of the 2019/20 season.
New Super League President, Minas Lysandrou, is in Madrid to meet with his counterparts from various European leagues and discuss issues related to the way league competitions are carried out. These meetings with also be aided by UEFA and FIFA’s presence.
Super League Board of Directors meeting scheduled for Thursday
On Thursday, a Super League Board of Directors meeting will take place with various matters to be discussed including the validation of the 2018/19 Super League table.
In addition, the Super League U17 competition was a great success, including the Final-4 in Agrinio, and the organizing body will look to build on this past season’s success. The Final-4 was live streamed and more broadcasting of the league is expected next season.
Super League promotion/relegation playoff date
After the 2018/19 Super League and Football League standings are validated, a date will be set for the Super League promotion/relegation playoff draw (originally scheduled for Tuesday, but was postponed). In the playoff, the Super League’s 13th placed team, OFI, and the Football League’s runner-up, Platanias, will fight in a two-legged playoff for a place in the 2019/20 Super League. The losing side will compete in next year’s second division, the Super League 2.
The draw will decide which team will play the first leg at home. Currently, it looks as if the first leg will take place on May 15th and the second leg four days later on May 19th.
