GREEK NATIONAL SOCCER TEAM: Two years ago, efforts were made to schedule a memorable friendly rematch of the Euro 2004 Final between Greece and Portugal. Fresh efforts have been made in 2019 by the same group - namely the Heraklion Football Clubs Association (EPS Heraklion) and its President Nikos Tzortzoglou, ahead of the landmark 15 year anniversary.
WORLD SOCCER (FIFA WORLD CUP): England, losers of their last five penalty shoot-outs, broke their dire streak as they triumphed on penalties over Colombia on Tuesday. A 1-1 draw saw the teams play through 120 minutes of football before penalties came. In the day’s other match, Sweden also advanced to the quarter-finals thanks to a 1-0 victory over Switzerland. It will be the Swedes’ fifth appearance at the quarter-final stage.
WORLD SOCCER (FIFA WORLD CUP): France and Uruguay progressed after coming through two superb matches in the first knockout stage games of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Day 17 saw the Round of 16 begin in Russia and if these matches are anything to go by then the world is in for some amazing football in the coming days. France took the lead, gave it up, then had to come from behind to defeat Argentina 4-2. Uruguay meanwhile, did not have many chances, but took the ones they did have to advance past Portugal 2-1. The results mean that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo both exit, potentially their last World Cup each, on the same day. Winners France and Uruguay will now meet in the quarter-finals at the Nizhny Novograd Stadium on Friday.
WORLD SOCCER (FIFA WORLD CUP): Spain and Portugal advanced to the knockout round of the 2018 FIFA World Cup after a dramatic Day 12. That wouldn’t seem like such a surprising headline as both sides were expected to easily come through a section that included Iran and Morocco. Yet, it was the two latter sides who impressed on the night. Iran came within a whisker of advancing as they drew 1-1 with Portugal. Morocco, already eliminated, played superbly and just missed out on defeating Spain due to a late goal in a 2-2 draw.
WORLD SOCCER (FIFA WORLD CUP): The 2018 FIFA World Cup continued with Day 7 action. Groups A and B are set to go to the final day after today’s results. Uruguay’s narrow defeat of Saudi Arabia 1-0 sets up a group finale with Russia to determine first and second in the group. The situation in Group B is even more complex. Spain and Portugal both recorded 1-0 victories, over Iran and Morocco respectively. They are the favorites to go through the group, but despite the defeat, Iran can still qualify for the Round of 16 if they can manage to defeat Portugal in the third and final match in the group.

Portugal came back three times to tie Hungary 3-3 on the final matchday of Group F. Iceland defeated Austria 2-1 with a late goal and finished second behind Hungary.
