Teenage midfielder Michelis joins AC Milan
Young defensive midfielder Nikos Michelis has joined AC Milan, penning a long term deal with the Italian giants after leaving Asteras Tripolis.
Michelis, who is 17 years of age, has caught the eye in Tripoli with his impressive displays, making 14 appearances in the 2018/2019 U19 Super League and scoring the one goal. As a result, AC Milan came calling, paying Asteras a reported fee of 400 thousand euros to sign Michelis on a five-year contract.
Asteras confirmed the development with this following statement:
“Asteras Tripolis FC have agreed a fee with AC Milan for the transfer of Nikos Michelis to the Italian team. Nikos, born on 23 March 2001, had a professional contract with Asteras and was playing in the U19 team.”
Vice-president of Asteras Dimitris Borovilos commented on the transfer:
“The fact that we sold a player to such a big club fills us with pride. The development of another player in the Asteras Tripolis academy shows us that we’re working in the right direction. We thank AC Milan for their cooperation, and at the same time, we hope that Nikos Michelis makes his dream of playing successfully in a foreign league a reality.”
Michelis is at his best playing in the role of defensive midfielder, but he is a versatile player, capable of either playing further forward or in the centre of defence.
