Rethymno, Kymi, and Lavrio will fight to avoid the drop on the final matchday of the 2018/19 Basket League regular season.
The Basket League regular season concludes on Wednesday with round 26 as three teams are fighting to avoid the drop. Rethymno, Kymi, and Lavrio will look to avoid finishing second from bottom which leads to relegation to the second division. Kolossos Rodou have already been mathematically demoted to the A2 Basket League after a weekend loss to Olympiacos.
Current Basket League Standings
11. Rethymno 32 pts
12. Kymi 32 pts
13. Lavrio 31 points
14. Kolossos Rodou 30 pts*
*Have already been relegated to the A2 Basket League
Final Regular Season Game
Lavrio - Ifaistos Limniou
Panathinaikos - Kymi
Aris - Rethymno
Rethymno, who have been in form of late, are in pole position as a win over Aris on Wednesday will secure their top flight status. However, if the Cretans lose in Thessaloniki, they can still avoid the drop.
Below are all the scenarios that will keep Rethymno in the Basket League:
A win over Aris regardless of any other results
A loss to Aris and a Kymi loss to Panathinaikos
If Rethymno loss and Kymo win, then Lavrio will need to lose to Ifaistos Limnou
Like Rethymno, Kymi control their own fate however they have an impossible task against Panathinaikos in Athens. In the unlikely event where Kymi defeat Panathinaikos, they will avoid relegation all together no matter the other results. However, if Kymi do lose to the Greens, then they will need Ifaistos Limnou to do them a favor and defeat Lavrio on the final matchday as Lavrio hold the head-to-head advantage in the case of a tie.
Below are all the scenarios that will keep Kymi in the Basket League:
A win over Panathinaikos
A Kymi loss to Panathinaikos and an Ifaistos Limnou win over Lavrio.
Lavrio, who lost to relegated Kolossos on matchday 25, are looking from the outside in as they do not control their own fate. That being said, Panathinaikos are clear favorites to defeat Kymi and if the Greens meet expectations, then a simple Lavrio win over Ifaistos Limnou will keep them in the top flight, sending Kymi to the second division.
Below is are the scenarios that will keep Kymi in the Basket League:
A win over Ifaistos Limnou and a Kymi loss to Panathinaikos
A win over Ifaistos Limnou, a Kymi win over Panathinaikos, and a Rethymno loss to Aris
