Euro U17 2018 1st Qualifying Round Group 5- MATCHDAY 1
|Norway U17||0 - 1||Greece U17|
The Greek U17 national team began their Euro 2018 qualifying campaign with a 1-0 win over Norway thanks to Thymianis’ 26th minute goal.
The win puts Greece in the driver's seat in Group 5 of the first of two qualifying rounds for the Euro 2018 tournament. The Greek side sit on 3 points, tied with Serbia (defeated Gibraltar 7-0), after the first matchday of games as Norway and Gibraltar round up the group with zero points.
Thymianis’ 26th minute goal was enough to give the Ethniki Paidon the 1-0 win in a match that was held in Serbia, Group 5’s host nation. The national team is scheduled to play a weak Gibraltar side on October 21st for matchday two, knowing that a win will mathematically secure Greece a place in the next round of qualifying, the Elite Qualifying round.
The top two teams from each group progress to the Elite Qualifying round, along with the 4 third placed teams with the best record against the top two teams in their group.
