Top Greeks Honored at PSAT Awards
The top Greek athletes, teams, and coaches were honored at the annual PSAT Awards.
Pole vault superstar Ekaterini Stefanidi was voted Greek female athlete of the year, beating out tennis player Maria Sakkari, and shooter Artemis Kefalidou. It was a well-deserved award for Stefanidi, the World and European champion in 2017.
On the men’s side, gymnast Eleftherios Petrounias was named Greek athlete of the year, beating out basketball player Giannis Antetokounmpo and pole vaulter Kostas Filippidis. Like Stefanidi, Petrounias was also both the World and European champion in 2017.
The Greek men’s junior national water polo team was named team of the year, which was fitting for them as they won the 2017 World Junior Championship. The other finalists for that award were the men’s senior national water polo team, and the men’s U20 national basketball team.
The best Greek athletes with disabilities were track and field athletes Maria Stamatoula for the women, and Michalis Seitis for the men. The best Greek team with disabilities award went to the men’s national goalball team, the reigning European champions.
Finally, the award for coach of the year went to Dimitris Raftis, the coach of Petrounias.
