Earlier in the year, it was decided that the VAR system will be installed in the Super League for the 2018/2019 season, but in a trial run, the technology was used in the Kallithea - Trikala match in the Football League. Cameras were set up alongside the perimeters of the Grigoris Lambrakis Stadium, while game footage was monitored in a designated room with specialists keeping an eye on how the system worked.
In an largely uneventful match, Trikala claimed a narrow win against Kallithea, scoring in the 86th minute through Dimitris Sialmas. Trikala occupy 6th place of the Football League with 58 points, but Kallithea are already doomed to relegation in 16th position.
