Vellios continues promising form in Belgium
On Saturday, Apostolos Vellios scored his fourth goal of the 2018/2019 Jupiler League season in Belgium, helping Waasland-Beveren defeat Antwerp 2:0 on the road.
Ever since joining the Belgian side on loan from Nottingham Forest, former Greek international striker Vellios has experienced a major upturn in fortunes, impressing with strong performance when given a chance in the Jupiler League. Yesterday, the 26-year old grabbed his fourth of the current campaign, finding the net in stoppage time in a 2:0 win against Antwerp in an away match.
Vellios was only introduced as a substitute on 90 minutes, but four minutes after entering proceedings, the striker struck the jackpot. Alone inside the penalty area, Vellios’ first attempt was stopped by Antwerp goalkeeper Sinan Bolat, but he reacted quickest to steer the rebound into the net for Waasland-Beveren’s second goal.
In 13 Jupiler League appearances, Vellios boasts four goals, while Waasland-Beveren occupy 14th place of the standings with 17 points from 19 matches.
