Veria close to Football League exit
Veria FC, a club which played in the Super League last season, find themselves in huge trouble. Currently in 17th place of the Football League with only 14 points, the team barely have any funds remaining to continue competing in the championship.
Earlier on this week, information was released stating that final efforts to save the club are ongoing, but it’s highly likely that Veria will move down to the Gamma Ethniki and start afresh. In short, Veria require a miracle if they are to continue participating in the Football League.
On Tuesday, a meeting was held in order to find a solution to the problems facing Veria. The best possible efforts will be put in place to preserve Veria’s Football League status, however, due to the lack of time to pay off debts and fulfill certain financial obligations, it will be difficult to achieve this goal. In the case that the plan doesn’t have the desired effect, Veria will leave the Football League and lawyers will work on creating a ‘new’ club to replace the financially crippled Veria which exists today. The team will then begin playing in the Gamma Ethniki without the current financial burdens which exist at this moment in time.
In the coming days, more clarity concerning Veria’s future will become clear. Veria’s next Football League fixture is scheduled for Sunday at home to 15th placed Panegialios.
