Vlachodimos officially signs for Benfica on five-year deal
Panathinaikos goalkeeper Odisseas Vlachodimos finally completed his move to Benfica, signing for the Portuguese club on a five-year deal.
24-year old Vlachodimos had been linked to Benfica for almost the entire season, but after months of speculation, the German stopper penned a contract with the Portuguese giants for five seasons. The transfer fee stands at 2.43 million euros.
Following the announcement, Vlachodimos shared his feelings about the transfer, mentioning that he asked for advice from former Benfica hitman Kostas Mitroglou before moving to Portugal: “Benfica is a very big club with great supporters,” stated Vlachodimos. “I spoke to Kostas Mitroglou, who told me it’s a fantastic club and that I will enjoy playing here. This team has a very nice stadium and I am happy to be in Portugal. I will give my best for the club.”
Born in Stuttgart, Vlachodimos has represented Germany at every youth international level, culminating in winning the 2017 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. After leaving hometown club VfB Stuttgart in January 2016, he signed for Panathinaikos, spending 2.5 years in Athens. During the 2017/2018 season, Vlachodimos made 25 Super League appearances and conceded 21 goals.
