TENNIS: After already winning three matches earlier in the tournament, Greece’s Maria Sakkari won two matches on Thursday, defeating world number 16 Anett Kontaveit of Estonia and world number 5 Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic at the Italian Open.
TENNIS: Play being backed up due to rain was not a problem for Stefanos Tsitsipas, as the 20-year-old Greek defeated two Italian opponents in straight sets on Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals in Rome, including a late night win over world number 12 Fabio Fognini.
OLYMPIC SPORTS (GREECE): Four-time defending champion Eleftherios Petrounias will be unable to defend his title in the men’s rings at the European Gymnastics Championships, as he is recovering from injury.
TENNIS: Stefanos Tsitsipas moved up two spots to number 8 in the ATP singles rankings, while the 20-year-old also became the first Greek man to break into the top 100 in doubles after reaching the final at the Miami Open.
OLYMPIC SPORTS (BOXING): The “Gods of War 12-WLF” event held at the Dais Sports Center in Marousi, Athens was a huge success for the Greek team. With international title belts on the line, the competition was a feast for the eyes.
