-- EXPLANATION OF GREEK SUPERLEAGUE STANDINGS --

standings & calculation

The Greek SuperLeague standings are calculated based off a points system used across the soccer world. Three points are awarded for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss. The team with the most points at the conclusion of the SuperLeague (30 fixtures) is considered the Greek SuperLeague Champion. The two last placed teams are relegated to the Greek Football League whereas the two best teams from the Football League are promoted to the SuperLeague. There are no playoffs for the 2017/18 SuperLeague season and the season will come to an end after 30 matchdays.

tie breakers

If two or more teams are equal on points, the following criteria are applied to determine the rankings:

  1. Higher number of points obtained in the league matches played between the teams in question (i.e. head to head results)

  2. Superior goal difference from the league matches played between the teams in question (i.e. head to head goal difference)

  3. Higher number of goals scored (goals forced) from the league matches played between the teams in question (i.e. head to head goals scored)

  4. Superior goal difference from ALL the league matches played (i.e. overall goal difference)

  5. Higher number of goals scored from ALL the league matches played (i.e. overall goals forced)

  6. Lowest number of goals conceded from ALL the league matches played (i.e. overall goal conceded)
